We teamed up with Mad Ruffian again to create another live performance video for Spotify! This time around rapper NLE Choppa visited Spotify's green screen studio to perform "Slut Me Out". We were tasked with developing an abstract cg world that played off the provocative energy and lyrics of the track.
The concept centers around larger-than-life posed statues, hidden under translucent covers, designed to evoke a sense of mystery and allure. The dynamic light play of the translucent material injects a sense of motion to the otherwise static silhouettes
On our way to settling on the underground temple setting, we explored some other potential locations. Below are a couple of our favorites! On the left is an abandoned, rundown temple (we ended up holding onto the stairs from this one, hehe) and in the center are ancient ruins in a red, almost alien desert (we repurposed the posed statues here, hehe x2)
One of the unique challenges we were up against on this project was matching the practical, strobing lighting changes that were captured on set. We grouped our cg lights into a node-based system that we animated frame-by-frame to match the various states of the practical lights in the finale of the video. Tedious? A little, but worth it to get that little twist of practical chaotic energy in the final piece!
